Renowned for its stunning white-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Nungwi offers an unforgettable blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. WHAT TO DO IN NUNGWI?

1. Baraka Turtle Sanctuary

Baraka Turtle Sanctuary is a popular spot in Nungwi where visitors can see and feed sea turtles in a walled natural pool connected to the ocean. While it offers a chance to interact with these beautiful creatures, at Zanzitrip, we’ve chosen not to sell this excursion. Instead, we highly recommend the Salaam Cave experience, a more natural, peaceful setting where you can swim with turtles in crystal-clear spring water, surrounded by nature rather than crowds. It’s an authentic, unforgettable alternative that truly reflects the beauty and tranquility of Zanzibar.

2. Kilosa Zoo

If you haven’t had the chance to go on a full safari, Kilosa Zoo in Nungwi offers a small but enjoyable glimpse into Zanzibar’s animal life. This locally run mini-zoo is home to a variety of animals, including monkeys, ostriches, crocodiles, antelopes, and more. It's a great option for families or travelers looking to experience some wildlife up close without leaving the island. While it’s not a replacement for a true safari, Kilosa Zoo provides a fun and educational stop for animal lovers exploring the Nungwi area.

3. Visit Nungwi Sandbank & Oasis Hotel

Right in front of the Oasis Hotel in Nungwi, you'll find one of Zanzibar’s best-kept secrets "the Nungwi Sandbank". This stunning stretch of powdery white sand appears during low tide, surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters that make it feel like a private island.

Whether you're soaking up the sun, snapping dreamy photos, or wading through shallow waters full of marine life, the sandbank offers a peaceful and picturesque escape just steps from the shore.

Pro Tip: Visit during low tide for the full experience, and don’t forget your camera, this spot is pure magic.

4. Sunset on Nungwi Beach

Watching the sunset on Nungwi Beach is an experience you won’t forget. As the day winds down, the sky above the Indian Ocean bursts into a spectacular canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting off the calm turquoise waters.
